The Adam Curtis piece is a really nice background to the rise of neoliberalism. If I have it roughly: cold war and game theory cum hayek cum james nash schizophrenic equilibrium cum laing and psychoanalysis cum james buchanen and into Thatcherism.

Normal business is to make a good product that works and then you get paid. Neoliberalism is getting the money first, and then getting it to work only if something really forces you to.

Re the Kochs: so called philanthropy is not free. The Kochs and their ilk stole every penny from the public, and then they pretend to do the public some favors. Then they take a tax writeoff for it. Total scam.

Unfortunately, as Chris well knows, the country is so far down the path of neoliberalism and neoconservatism that the end of the empire is relatively close at hand. Chris has stated, society, as we have come to know it, will last another decade or two, no more. The public once again became politicized in 2018 and began the process of reversal. The last decade the populace was politicized was in the '60's. It's been approximately forty years before enough citizens figured out what was wrong to attempt to do something. Neoliberalism has a huge head start. Even electing a progressive President and Congress in 2020 won't save the empire. The SCOTUS has been stacked with neoconservatives which guarantees the end of the empire.

What interest rate was Chris Hedges speaking of at 370 billion? Interest rate on national debt for 2018 is 523 billion according to http://www.treasurydirect.gov.

look, if we were a free market anyone could take any literary medium be it books cds music you name it , free to copy it resell it and profit off it, that would be a free unfettered open us market for anyone with interest might care to dabble in, and this is only one example there are many, so, is america a free market society, no it is not, this is the grand lie, we are far from that as far as east from the west i guess you could say

Ok as much as I adore Chris I have a problem with steering question answers. That said on finer articulation it’s clear that Clinton was the trump card the establishment wanted to wipe the people off the table. Pure fucking evil at its best.

Hunkey hypocrisy at its zenith. For example, ask the dudes on this program where they get groceries, clothes, & eat at? Where do they go to get health care, a haircut, or who they call to fix their toilets? I guarantee it ain't no socialist owned businesses or enterprises!

One has to enjoy how socialism/neoliberalism boils down to some white folks blamin other white folk for the problems they all aid & assist in creating & promulgating. As I have stated empirically, feminism, facisim, conservatism, libertarianism, communism, & progressivism is all forms of white oppression/supremacy…the rt network platforms only exists because of capitalism, duhhhhhhhhhh.

If ' accumulation of wealth is predicated on the accumulation of debt', then all we need to do to bring down the oligarchs is DON'T PAY THOSE DEBTS. Don't pay your school loans, healthcare bills, etc. I think this is the only effective way for the people to protest.

I have some concerns with Hedges (he has weird religious views that occasionally come to the surface, such as calling out "sexual perversion" as a cause for societal collapse, which sounds very close to homophobia), but Harvey is a fricking genius: "There's nothing more unequal than the equal treatment of unequals." 10:25 Neoliberal "equality" means that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Neo liberalism has increased inequality for the bottom 50% of US workers–their real wages have gone down approx. 20% over the last 40 years, but it has also contributed to lifting 500 million Chinese out of poverty. From a Utilitarian perspective this appears to have been good for humanity…no?

There is only one liberalism, there must not be such things as neo- old left- right etc liberalism, it must only be related to freedom of the people, LIBERAL=FREE.
