"in the 11 months following the storm"
Gonna be honest, that doesn't sound like a death toll from a storm. I don't follow politics that much but it really seems like trump could cure cancer and people would find something wrong with it.
All he said is that the government did as well as they could combating the storm, the rest of the deaths are the responsibility of the puerto rican government for failing to restore power in 11 fucking months.

    But it's trumps fault

Well the socialists (like mayor Cruz) on the ground withheld aid makes this sort of true, that anti American socialist democrats are the cause, so nuance is important

I doubt it too! People tend to exaggerate to make things look the way they want them to look. Probably Trump is right and they are blaming María for the death of a person that choked on a Spanish lime because the tree lost a few branches during the hurricane. That is how people in the whole entire world acts. I do not doubt that there were a lot of deaths would have to be investigated to know the truth.

Do people think it is 'normal' to have to explain and try to convince POTUS that a hurricane killed 3,000 people? We are in the 'Twilight Zone'. An insane person is ALLOWED to be POTUS? Failure of law. Soon T will shoot someone dead in the middle of 5th Avenue and go back to the WH. No problem.

CNN is clearly incorrect.  Checking out the report reveals that it is just an estimate, with no hard data to back it up.  The confirmed, identified dead is 64 people.  Trump is correct.  This is the problem using estimates.  They can be very incorrect.  To any agency or person who claims 2975 dead, please provide their exact identities.  That would confirm the number.

For those who complain about negative coverage on trump…imagine a parallel universe where trump does like all past and future presidents and stays away from twitter. A tweet requires news coverage and it requires fact-checking. How many negative stories would not exist in that universe?

And imagine if trump were like all past and future presidents who privately dispute a death count. The declaration "3000 people did not die" would not exist. At worst, any past or future president would say "we need to commission another study on the death toll. The reported total may be in error."

“They did not die in the hurricane.

They died in pain, at home, of kidney failure unable to access the dialysis clinic for weeks.

They died, gasping for hours near the end, when the oxygen tank they needed to breathe gave out.

They died in the dark and the heat of unsanitary ICU units, of burns or gunshot wounds received before the hurricane that they almost certainly would have survived otherwise.

They died, burning up with fever, of leptospirosis from being in touch with flood waters during the effort to save their neighbors.

They died in fear and confusion after being forced to go off their regular medication.
    They died of heat stroke.

They died of diseases of antiquity, in a crisis of neglect unworthy the greatest, wealthiest and most powerful nation in human history.

They died. But we lived. And we remember."
